How Diabetes Is Connected To Your Oral Health

Though the two may seem completely separate, you may be surprised to learn that they can actually be interconnected.  While not as common in children, about nine percent of adults living in the US have been diagnosed with type II diabetes.  There can be a myriad of symptoms resulting from this diagnosis, but poor oral health is one of the lesser known consequences.

Because of these increased levels, those individuals are at higher risk for oral infection due to weakened resistance to both the gum and bone tissue infection.  This risk of gum disease, can also lead to a spike in blood glucose.   Likewise, as gum disease can cause this spike, these individuals are at risk for developing diabetes.  This vicious cycle shows an even higher need floss, brush, and take care of teeth extremely well.
